– A Feldenkrais® Practice of Somatic Movement –

SomaMoves is a class for Awareness Through Movement® or ATM® for short, the group version of the Somatic Method of Feldenkrais® Education, where students are verbally guided through a movement sequence designed to explore/modify/enhance a specific function or set of functions, such as movement in the hips, the shoulders or the neck for instance, or perhaps to enhance the ability to turn or to get up and down from the floor.

So What Is ... Felden ... What???

The Feldenkrais Method® is a somatic approach to overall improvement of human function, beneficial to all ages and abilities. It is NOT an exercise, not stretching, not strenuous; however IT IS fully approachable to general populations AND also for those with significant physical and cognitive difficulty.

Its effectiveness comes from engaging the plastic capacity of the mind – the ability to change in structure and function - through gentle, specifically sequenced movements with awareness, thus through observation, recognition and differentiation allowing new, more efficient options to arise. It allows participants to move easier, lighter, more efficiently, be more self aware, recognize and change ingrained patterns to new ones to improve any function.

No prior experience or special skill set needed, it will however enhance the entire human function from the physical to the neurological as the method is based on neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change and adapt itself and functions it governs in humans.

Breathing, moving, finding balance, learning the basics from the ground up – a series of 9 lessons offered as a cohesive whole, where the classes are logically sequenced for optimum benefit, but can be taken individually as well. You'll learn/practice the fundamentals of yoga, meditation, somatic movement so your mind becomes clearer, your body lighter and your stress level more manageable.

This is a class designed so even beginners can participate – but literally anyone will benefit – and during the 9 week course you’ll master enough of the basics and principles to become confident to start a home practice, which then will become one of the cornerstones of your well-being.

Through movement, guided exploration, breathwork and meditation you will master working with your body and mind as an integrated whole and come away with the knowledge necessary to manage both your physical as well as mental reality from a more empowered perspective.
